Neuro-Functional Acupuncture
Neurofunctional Acupuncture is a modern, science-based approach to acupuncture that focuses on stimulating the nervous system to restore and enhance neuromuscular function, reduce pain and promote recovery.
It combines principles of traditional Chinese acupuncture with current neuroscience, functional anatomy and research behind pain.
Used for:
- Chronic or acute pain (ex. low back pain, headaches, shoulder pain)
- Muscle inhibition or weakness
- Movement dysfunction
- Post-surgical recovery
- Sports injuries and performance optimization
How It Works:
- Very fine needles are inserted into motor points, trigger points, or nerve pathways, often accompanied by electrical stimulation (electroacupuncture)
- The goal is to activate specific nerves or muscle groups to “reset” dysfunctional patterns in the brain, central nervous system, and peripheral nervous system.
- It encourages the body to correct dysfunctional movement, reduce pain signals, and normalize muscle tone or joint control.
Treatment is based on functional assessments and often includes movement retraining.
